Victor Frank Bogaard, III, was unanimously voted in as president of Bogard Construction, Inc. on Dec. 15, 1998.

Bogard Construction began in 1947 by Victor F. Bogard after he moved to Santa Cruz from Sheldon, Iowa. The company began building homes in the Opal Cliffs area, followed by homes in Carbonera Estates and the entire Santa Cruz area. Over 350 homes during the late 1940s through the 1960s were built by the company. Commercial work includes the UCSC Applied Science Building, Kresge College and Merrill Library, as well as many other schools and offices such as Mar Vista Elementary School, and Santa Cruz Juvenile Facility, additions to Soquel and the office plaza at 550 Water Street in Santa Cruz. To date the company has built or remodeled ten Safeway markets, nine Lucky Discount Stores, more than forty Longs Drug Stores, 29 shopping centers, and numerous hospitals, churches, and schools.

Over the years the company has rated twice in the top 400 contractors in the nation, according to McGraw-Hill Construction Weekly.
