In 2016, Santa Cruz voters passed Measure S, a $67 million bond, which provides funds for improvements to the Santa Cruz Library system, which includes the Garfield Park Branch Library
Upgrades for these branches include electrical, telecommunication and security upgrades, new furnishings and finishes, as well as improved ADA accessibility and outdoor patio space.
Built in 1915, Garfield Park Library is the last remaining Carnegie library in the Santa Cruz system. Renovations maintain the library's footprint and historic look, while increasing its ability to welcome and host more varied learning, exploring, and connecting for residents and visitors.
