Grace Commons is a housing project in Santa Cruz providing special-needs oriented Affordable Housing for residents with very low incomes. Bogard Construction worked with Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center, through preconstruction and design, providing constructability and budgeting services, followed by construction. This fifteen, one-bedroom unit building is approximately 10,000 SF.
The building steps down from three-stories with a flat roof, to one-story with a gable roof, and various sloping roofs between. The stucco exterior is punctuated by window awnings and recesses. The interior provides a common laundry room, gathering room, and rear barbeque patio for residents. A parking lot, shaded by heritage trees is shared by peer counseling center on the rear parcel. The overall effect is a gracious yet contemporary transition between the Eastside Business District and the adjacent neighborhood.
