With $35 million per year in managed construction projects, Bogard Construction employs 15 people in its office, and 50 to 150 in the field. Yet call the company and chances are you will be dealing with a Bogard. "They haven't gotten so corporate as to lose the touch of family," said David Robison, who heads Strategic Construction Management.

Victor Bogard Jr., chairman of the board, Brad Bogard, chief operating officer, and Jim Bogard, executive vice president, all play very active roles in the company. However, the company is shifting its leadership to the 3rd generation of Bogard's. Chip Bogaard was voted President of the company in 1997 and Jared Bogaard, Vice President in 2000.

The Bogard family and Bogard Construction have grown with Santa Cruz. Their work is everywhere: from UC Santa Cruz, Seagate Technologies, and the McPherson Center for Art and History, to the main Santa Cruz Medical Clinic office and Dominican Hospital. Local schools, churches and entire residential neighborhoods bear their labor as well.

Bogard Construction is a US Green Building Council member and has taken part in LEED Certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) projects. LEED projects emphasize state of the art strategies for environmentally sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and environmental quality.

Local projects currently under construction by the Bogard's are the Pacific Shores Apartments in Santa Cruz, the Continental Sales Company's new facility in Watsonville, Frontier Ranch Housing for Mission Springs in Scotts Valley, as well as on-going construction at both Dominican Hospital and Watsonville Community Hospital.
